Quiet enough to use in an apartment/dorm

This set mutes a kit really well! It is quiet enough for me to play in a dorm without making everyone else mad. Also, it still keeps a pretty normal feel to the set, the cymbals can feel a little weird at times though. My only complaint is I wish they gave you more tabs to attach the bass head with. It comes with one and it works, I ended up taking two small command strips for the sides to keep them in though.

Bought a full set of these to allow me to practice in the townhouse I am currently renting. They absolutely do what they say, the sound is muted more than enough to play at just about any hour. My only con for this product would be that the stick response is very different from a real drum head. There is not much bounce, which makes it difficult to practice any snare work, the overall feel is just different, but it's a trade off I guess. The product is well made and built to last, I am very happy with them overall and would recommend them.

I live with my bandmates and hearing drums for 2 hours straight with no musical context is annoying for most people. My bandmates are happy I'm practicing, but would prefer not to have their brains rattled for hours on end. I live in the basement and they live upstairs (and it's still loud without the mutes). With these mutes, they all tell me how effective these mutes are and "worth it" for the sanity of the household.
Since I've had them, they've stayed in place just fine. I have my rack toms tilted at a 35-45 degree angle and they stay on just fine. The mutes actually seem to help my wrists build up some more strength. The mutes don't allow for the same kind of rebound a head has, obviously, so you have to used a little bit more of your wrists to make those fast fills happen.
Overall it does what it advertises and might even help slightly improve your wrist strength.....my claim not theirs :P

I bought this vic firth mutes because I wanted a better quality of mutes then the other kinds of mutes I have tried. I found this to be the best. The cut the sound of the drums better than others & they look & feel better as well.

So far with our sons first set, this is the best purchase to keep our sanity. They work as advertised. The 7 year old isn't a heavy hitter, so that helps quiet the set as well. I wish the kick mute fit better, tends to lean out somewhat and not give the full fill of the pedal, but does what it's intended to. Some of our cymbals are a little short for them, but overall couldn't beat the price for all included. This with a drum dial were our first purchase from Steve's, but will not be our last. Quick shipping and alerted promptly when filled and shipped. Recommend these items, and Steve's.

Fits the tom perfectly with no slipping. Sound dampening is great enough to allow me to play upstairs while my family watches tv downstairs and there is no sound proofing in my room. Easy transaction Steve Weiss Music was a great company to work with.

Too mute for Jr drums

I purchased mutes for a Groove Percussion JR200 5 piece children's set. I found these mutes to be a bit thick and they do not give the impression that you're hitting drums. It literally sounds and feels like there are mouse pads on the drums. The sound is reduced by 95% and does not sound like a drum at all. Ever since I put on the mutes, my son no longer enjoys playing his drum set. I am not sure if these will work better for the 'adult' sized sets, but I can say that it's definitely not good for Jr. sets.

The original mute I received was 1-1/2" too short for the cymbal. I needed one that extended closer to the edge. I returned the original mute and you replaced it at no additional charge to me. I apperciated your great service. This is what keeps customers coming back.

These pads work wonders for keeping the sound levels down during practice in an enclosed space. The only thing I would have like to see is a second piece for the high hat pad to lay on the bottom cymbal. Overall these pads were a great investment!
