Amazing mallets

Comments:

These mallets are amazing starter mallets for timpani. They don't have an easily breakable seam like most do, rather having a inside seam, which is harder to break. These got me and two of my friends through last concert season and will probably last us multiple seasons to come. As a bonus, the price isn't too bad either.

Good for beginners

Comments:

These mallets will do the job for beginners, but for more serious percussionists, I would not recommend these.

Great quality, great price

Comments:

Beautifully made. I use these with tambourines teaching children's dance. Wrapped the upper handle to protect the wood from damage when playing it on the side of the tambourine. Nice balance in the hand.

Comments:

I use these mallets for all sorts of applications from timpani to drum set to sus cymbals. Seriously, they perform and perform and perform. Great balance, great durability, great craftsmanship combine to create one heck of a war horse mallet!

Great!

Comments:

These mallets are pretty good. There are a little soft and a little heavy to my liking, but they work well in all kinds of repertoire. I like 'em!

Vic Firth Timpani Mallet T-1 General

Comments:

Our Band Director needed a Timpani Mallet and placed this (among other items) in his wish list. He said that the Vic Firth brand for mallets is what his band has been using for many years. He also added that for general use the T-1 mallet is great for the price. Many are expensive, but the least expensive will suit the band for a good two to three years.

Good for practice

Comments:

The T1's are great for everyday use and practice on the timpani. However, for performances I would use something I little better such as the promark PSTB30's.

great mallet, but soft

Comments:

Great mallet for a big, fairly legato sound. I recommend 2 pairs, a worn pair and a fresh pair. Vic Firth discontinued the recover kits, which is a big minus in my book. DO NOT USE FOR CYMBAL ROLLS! The felt can't take that kind of beating.

Vic Firth T1 Timpani Mallets

Comments:

These are a well rounded pair of timpani mallets. The heads are soft, and provide a great full-bodied tone. I especially like the tapered shaft, which makes for excellent balance. They roll great, and I recently used a pair playing "Londendary Aire" (for those unfamiliar, it is a slow singing hymn like piece) with my ensemble and they performed greatly. However, I do not agree with the label "general" or "all purpose", as they are more legato. If you are thinking of buying a first pair of timpani mallets, you might want to go with a harder, more articulate one.
