Based on Roy's recommendation I tried both the warren wolf signature albright mallets and the stefon harris signature mallets (hard and medium). Both are wonderful. I give the edge to the stefon harris medium mallets for duplicating the definitive Milt Jackson sound. Either of them are by far much better than the Promark Milt Jackson mallets. A shame to have his name attached to those items so much so I threw those away. Thank you Roy for the excellent recommendation. It has improved the playing experience by 100% !!!

I know that one's taste in mallets is a very personal thing, and we all look for our own unique sound. I have to say that these mallets in very short order became my favorite, and I love the sound they produce. To each his own, of course, but these are my own.

I ordered this mallets a while ago they do have a unique sound but probably not useful for ensemble setting (too soft) and do not represent the sound of milt jackson. I later found out milt jackson used to play albright mallets and that malletech makes them now this is the closest you can to the milt jackson sound i tried the warren wolf signature albright mallets and they sound amazing! i would recommend those or the steffon harris signature mallets if your going for that sound

These mallets are VERY large, and have very short handles. They definitely aren't that suitable for 4 mallet playing or for an older vibraphone where the bars are smaller and aren't graduated. On the lower half of the vibraphone they sound very warm but the higher you get you will find the tone is more and more dead. If you want to find out if any pieces are lose on your vibraphone these mallets will easily find them. I've found myself using these more for percussion ensemble on the lower end of a marimba than I have for vibraphone.

These mallets are superb! The thickness helps produce such a warm and round sound. Arrpeggiating chords feels like an atmosphere rather than something right in the audience's face, which makes them wonderful for ballads or background music. Despite the warmth, you can really get a little grit out of the mallets for a louder, sharper sound. My mom ordered these for me as a Christmas present. I don't know how long it took for these to ship exactly, but I can assure it's within a months time. Great deal!

I don't know why it took me so many years to find these mallets. I was watching a Youtube video of Bags, and I decided to do some research to find out what mallets he used. These popped up at Steve Weiss music, so I ordered a pair and I was blown away. They are COMPLETELY different from any mallet I ever used before. They are HUGE, soft, and have a heavy weighted core. So the sound can be very soft because the cord is so soft, and there are so many windings, creating a very soft surface but if you need power, just a little more force in the stroke gives you a big, round sound. The warmth of the sound is definitely Jackson-like. When I go back to using other mallets, they sound "clanky" by comparison. The handles are very short - Milt never played with 4 mallets. But I did order a second pair, and you can play many close voicings with them. I don't like long-handled mallets anyway, but these are about as short as you could get and still do some 4-mallet playing. I LOVE these mallets. Totally unique. And reasonably priced.

I don't know why it took me so many years to discover the mallets that Bags used. They are totally different from any mallets I've ever tried. HUGE, very soft heads, and very short handles. Probably not suitable for 4 mallet playing (although you could try). But they offer a great range of sound - because they're so soft, you can get a very mellow round sound, but because the heads are so big, and the handles so short, you can also get real power and a very full sound. A vibraphone manufacturer told me to NEVER use these mallets, as the short handle and heavy head can "ruin" the bars in the upper register. But I think I'm gonging to ignore that warning, as I'm not a very hard, loud player. I just can't imagine that Milt's mallets could destroy my vibraphone keys. I love these mallets. A totally new experience.

While the stick length and the vinyl tip are indicators of Bags' official stick, these new heads do not resemble the Milt Jackson stick that was available when he was alive. The cores may be right, but they are wrapped too thickly, requiring way too much muscle to get a big tone, so much that the bars can clank or the cord can shear! Jackson liked a big head and a rounder sound, but not fluffy and devoid of attack.
