Weiss Metal Triangle Clip

The Steve Weiss Triangle Clip is the less expensive way to clip your favorite Triangle to a music stand or other similar surface. Use two clips for mounting a triangle when playing with two beaters.

Great clip!

Comments:

If you are looking for a great triangle clip that both holds the triangle in place and doesn't dampen the triangle resonance, then look no further! This is a fantastic triangle clip!! I'm sure there are others that work quite well, but for the price, you cannot find anything better.

When playing sometimes the triangle slides to the front or back thus deadening the sound. You have to hold it exactly level.

Okay Clip

Comments:

The clip itself is fine (if a little bit stiff to open and close at first), but the main problem is with the line used to hang the triangle. There is not enough space between the line and the rest of the clip to fit a standard Abel triangle, and with how taut it is even thinner triangles will slide to one side and make contact with the metal of the clip. Only worth buying if you're willing to cut off what comes on it originally and restring it yourself.

Cheap but Does the Job

Comments:

Yes, it's not perfect. The string is too short, and I would prefer rubber grips on the clip itself, but the string can easily be replaced with a longer one made from fishing line, and any rattling can be dampened with mole skin. The clip itself is very strong and does not show any signs of breaking soon. Any other option at this size is way too expensive for what it is. I recommend this for percussionists willing to take a few extra steps to get a good sound rather than paying too much.

Great Product but too short of string

Comments:

The product itself is nice but the fact that an Abel or Blackswamp triangle can't vibrate freely while using it is a problem. Sadly I have to go out and purchase fishing line to replace the existing line even though it isn't broken because it was improperly made. Only other suggestion is to add better padding on the clip. It is more like a non-slip material than it is a dampening material. This is in contrast to the Weiss Triangle Holder which is a thick cushion instead. Still for the price not a bad product.

Loops are too short.

Especially for a 1/2" triangle.

Almost, but not quite

Comments:

This clip has a couple of small design flaws that ruin an otherwise great triangle clip. The string was too tight (at least on the clamp I received). This means that instead of the string drooping down in an arc that keeps the triangle centered, the triangle slides back and forth along the string and makes contact with the metal clamp. This produces unwanted clanking sounds when moving the clamp around and also leads to the metal frame dampening some of the overtones if the triangle slips and presses against it. This would be very easy to fix (I replaced the provided string with fishing line of an appropriate length, and covered the metal frame with electrical tape to reduce unwanted noise). The clamping mechanism itself is strong and smooth. The sandpaper grip clings to surfaces well, but doesn't isolate vibrations as well as a rubber coating would (e.g. Transferring vibrations to and from a music stand). There is also no way to comfortably hold this clamp in a playing position that doesn't slip out of your hand. It would be great if there was more surface area to rest on your thumb and middle finger. (Weiss folks: if you're reading this, my experience with this clamp inspired me to draw up designs for a more ergonomic triangle clip than anything on the market. Feel free to email me if you're interested.)

Get what you pay for

Comments:

This is a nice alternative to the Black Swamp Clip (which is OUTRAGEOUSLY priced like most of their hardware)... except one of the bands broken within seconds of use. The other one is holding out fine so far, but now I have to get some extra fishing line. Boo. So, even with the extra cost of more fishing line, it's cheaper than other clips, but it was disappointing for something to break immediately out of the box.

Avoid this clip

Comments:

Arrived with one of the cables broken. Called customer service, guy said that happens all the time. Not sure why Weiss continues to see this product if they know its a problem--pretty disappointing. You can always lace it up with fishing line, but if you're not willing to do that I would NOT recommend this clip, because its going to break--and you or some poor kid is going to look like an idiot in the middle of a concert. Waste of money.

Not good with Alan Abel triangle

Comments:

Clip seems like a great idea. But it does not work well with the Alan Abel triangle, which is much thicker than most other triangles. The triangle slides to one side or the other too easily, contacts the metal arch, and produces a dead sound. It requires holding it or clipping it so that it is absolutely level, which is hard to do when switching instruments rapidly. I haven't used it with other triangles so it may be less of an issue with them, though I suspect still an issue. I bent mine with a vise and pliers to make a tighter arch and create more of a sag in the support wire, so it's now much more forgiving. Acceptable, but still not perfect. This could easily be fixed by making the support wire much longer so the triangle hangs below the level of the metal arch.

Could be much better

Comments:

The device functions reasonably well. Except that the fish line holder for the triangle is too short when the unit is clipped to a music stand that is tilted the triangle butts up against the metal clip.

Wouldn't recommend it

Comments:

The string is far too short. It is very difficult to use this clip and not have it mute the triangle. I wanted to hang it on a stand, but would not work unless it was perfectly even. Great design but it needs longer string.

A Disappointment

Comments:

I am usually a fan of Weiss products, but this triangle clip does not hold up. As other reviewers have mentioned, the string is not long enough to hold even a thin triangle. It is worth a few additional dollars to purchase a clip of superior quality.

Metal Triangle Clip

Comments:

I have always liked the Weiss Metal Triangle Clip. I recently purchased a Grover triangle and only after it arrived did I think, "Oh yeah, I need something to hold it with." My marimba partner who plays in the Chandler Symphony Orchestra with me uses the Weiss Metal Triangle Clip and I really like the way it is shaped to fit your fingers or be clipped to a music stand. But, my first thought was, "I have a Grover triangle, I should buy a Grover clip." I went to my local music store and found the Grover triangle clips. They are made of wood and are basically not much more than a clothespin with a string on them... oh, and they were $30. As soon as I saw the price tag I knew I was going to Steve Weiss for my triangle clip needs. I searched for the Metal Triangle Clip, found it quickly on the website, placed my order, and a few days later got it in the mail. It took more effort on my part to go to my local music store to be disappointed in the selection of other clips and not buy anything than it did for me to order the Weiss Metal Clip. These are great triangle clips, perfectly designed for exceptional use while performing and I will only every buy them for all of my triangles.

Works well if not on an angle

Comments:

If you hold the clip it works well. If it is clipped to a trap table (horizontally) it works fine. If it is clipped to a music stand (at an angle) the triangle touches the metal and won't resonate. If you can fit your triangle between the strings, it dampens the sound slightly. Longer string would make it perfect.

Affordable, but very poorly assembled

Comments:

The clip may look similar to a Black Swamp clip in the pictures, but it is far from it. All the rubber parts (not even shown in picture) have fallen off after a couple of rehearsals, which doesn't bother me. What does bother me though, is that the strings are WAY too short. Even my thinnest triangle won't fit in the opening between the 2nd string and the metal so I had to cut it off. Even then, my Abel triangle rattled against the metal unless you got it balanced in just the right spot. I cut the other string and replaced both with a longer piece of fishing line. Not a bad buy if you don't mind assembling it yourself.

Good Clip, Great Value!

Comments:

This is a good clip for the money. It fits the hand well, grips the music stand like it should, and the strings on it are good. Mine needed some WD-40 on the hinge and now it easily goes on and off the music stand with one hand. The rubbery coating where it contacts the music stand is really thin, so I will be adding some to it. I've used this one for about a month now. It does the job just fine and you can't beat the low price.

Great Clip

Comments:

I've really enjoyed this clip. It holds the triangle very well, and is easy to take on and off of my music stand. It was a bit awkward to hold at first, after using other styles of clamps for so many years, but I'm getting used to it. This is a great value!

Comments:

Every rubber part has to be reglued, they fell off during first use. Strings are okay, but not impressive. Though it's cheaper buying that for 10$ than the Black Swamp for 40$.

not good

Comments:

The design is good but the string isn't. I bought two of them and the string on both broke within 5 minutes. if you buy them then re-string it yourself with fishing line or something.
