Remo Ring Control Muffles

Remo's Ring Control Muffles are made of mylar and help to partially muffle your drums to control unwanted overtones. Easy to install.

Still the best!

Comments:

I've had two Muffles in my 20" kick for 20+ years (no, not both on the batter head ;-)) and they've kept my sound consistent the whole time. This one was to help tame a new 22" "travel kick" I built, and it does not disappoint. (The head does, but that's another issue.) The Remo Muffles are superior to every other approach I've tried for focusing my kick sound (tape, patches, pillows, blankets) in that they do just enough, stay consistent (same shape/pressure, exactly in the same place) after transport, and don't peel/fall off mid-show. (That said, my 20yo pair is probably getting to the point where the foam will start crumbling in a meaningful way.) Muffles for the win!

Muff'l or Powerstroke?

Comments:

I bought two 16" Remo Ring Control Muff'ls to go with the Diplomat FiberSkyn bass-drum heads on my new Ludwig Breakbeats miniature jazz kit because the Felt Tone Powerstroke head is not available as a 16". I'd used Muff'ls on 20" and 24" bass drums until Remo introduced the Felt Tone heads and was afraid they might muffle the 16" heads too much, but they sound great: warm, resonant, and concise.

Ring muffles - tight full sound

Comments:

These muffles help control over-ring in toms and bass drums while preserving the tone of the drums. If you want your to have a tight, studio sound then these are perfect! Use two on the bass drum and one below the batter head of your toms. Not recommended for snare drums unless you want a very dry snare.

Great

Comments:

These Ring Muffles are AMAZING. We used them to control the overtones on a pair of quads, and they worked PERFECTLY. Clear and sharp sounds.

A reliable standard for bass-drum muffling

Comments:

I've used the Remo Ring Control Muff'l on the batter head of my bass drum for many years (see my book The Human Drummer). I prefer to leave the front head unmuffled, but sometimes for miked playing I use a Muff'l on that head as well. I use a clear Emperor batter head with a Remo Mini Falam Slam (to prevent a dent from my wood pedal beater) and a FiberSkyn 3 Ambassador front head. The Ring Control Muff'l dampens the batter head just enough for rock (24") or jazz (20"), retains the warm tone, and even seems to enhance the low-end punch, something I've found lacking in the premuffled heads I've tried. The Muff'l is ugly (though it's prettier and lighter than a pillow), and the thin plastic channel that rests on the bearing edge eventually cracks with age. Until something better comes along, though, the Remo Ring Control Muff'l works for me.

Does the job

Comments:

Very effective. The only thing you need to be careful about is getting the right size. Maybe one that is slightly larger than your drum.
