Small and bad sound.

Comments:

Maybe it was the horn I received but I was much smaller than expected. Around 4 inches and length and did not produce a very good sound at all. Even my collegiate trumpet playing friends could not produce a good sound on this horn. Way too high pitched and small.

item as advertised

Comments:

I have been on Grand Canyon river trips where a large conch is used to call participants to meals; the large conch has a wonderful low tone. The shell I received is about 8" long with a brass ring mouthpiece. It's tone is more than one octave (I think) higher than that of a large conch and the tone is not as musical. If you're not a trumpet player (which I am), it takes some practice to be able to get the higher tone from the smaller shell.

Conch Shell Horn No Blow !!!!

Comments:

Conch Shell Horn was smaller than expected only 6 inches in length. I have a few other conch shell horns and they blow and sound beautiful this one sounds like a wounded moose !! Several of my friends who have conch horns also tried and no one got a decent sound out of this horn ! Guess it will be an expensive paper weight. I recommend only buying a horn you can see and try.

Powerful sound!

Comments:

I soon as I saw this on Steve Weiss, I just had to have it. Man is this thing loud! Though not a true percussion instrument, it is a nice addition to my growing arsenal of auxiliary percussion instruments and sound effects. Great for ethnic or tribal themed pieces. It took a little while to get my embouchure correct (as the mouthpiece isn't exactly the same as a trumpet's) but after I got the hang of it, it was a piece of cake. You can even stick your hand in it to adjust the pitch while playing. For obvious reasons, this would also be fun for brass players as well as auxiliary percussionists.
