Great Percussion/ Accessory Bag

I have gotten a lot of use out of this bag. It holds a lot of mallets as the name suggests. This bag works extremely well for a variety of situations. Mallets are very easy to grab and store. I added another divider contraption to hold sticks and a couple bows. The inner fabric is not super durable and I needed to protect against drum set sticks that were partially chewed up. The front pocket works for many things, some music, or accessories. Since the bag is soft, it rounds out over time. I have trouble putting this bag in chairs because it has a tendency to roll forward. This thing can hold a lot of weight, and I have seen these tossed around in trucks for tours and still be just fine. The backpack straps are fairly robust and the cushioning fits my spine. The music compartment in the main part of the bag can hold a lot of music, it just pushes the sticks further out, deforming the bag. This can also be a fantastic storage bag. I have found the side pockets almost useless if I have a full bag because all the mallets push outward and make the pocket much harder to access. Maybe if it was redesigned to roll an internal frame could help with this, but just add a lot of weight. This bag works okay for timpani mallets. If I have 4 pairs that I need for something quick, it works fine. If prioritizing easily accessible timpani mallets is your goal, then a different solution like a Freer or a Schlagkunst case would be better for application. A few competitors now sell bags that stand up but also have removable mini, hangable bags. These allow for versatility and ease of mallet set ups across a wide variety of instruments. The Mallet King does not have this option at the moment. At the price, this bag is wonderful. Most percussion bags are relatively cheap in the world of instrument cases. I would definitely recommend this to any percussionist in most circumstances.
Good, but not great

Doesn't have a carry handle, which gets pretty annoying. Also, the dividers seem to be slightly longer than the case, so they end up being pretty bent (they still work). Lastly, the velcro strap for the laptop sleeve almost entirely fell off out of the box. Mostly small stuff, but things that shouldn't have been too difficult to fix.
My one big complaint (beside the lack of a handle) is that the side pockets don't zip open all the way, so it is really hard to actually use them. Don't try to have quick access to anything in those pockets - they could pretty easily fall to the back/bottom, and it is a pain to get them out.
It would be really nice to see an updated version come out to address a few of these things.

I bought my wife a cardboard mallet box 30 years ago and it has served her well. This replacement is an upgrade in every way. Morxsoace, more compartments and more convenient. My only suggestion is that it's pretty back heavy as a backpack for my 5'3" wife. It works ok for me but I'm 6'6". Great tool that she will use for many years.

I've looked for a good stick & mallet solution for a while, this one ticks almost every box. I got the large size which holds my orchestra sized folder inside as well as my laptop/iPad. I keep pencils, erasers, and earplugs in one pocket. Tuning fork, surf wax, and drum key in another. The six pockets of organization are good enough for me - marimba x2, timpani, xylo, sticks/brushes + "as needed" pocket. Definitely stands up on it's on. It's big for sure and feels kind of like carrying a box on your back, but it's worth it and has a solid handle if you don't want to carry it in backpack mode. It might fit in an overhead bin on a plane as a carry-on but not for sure, so check measurements. Definitely wouldn't fit under a sit and it's sturdy but not sturdy enough for me to check.

I love this bag! I always take too many sticks and mallets to rehearsals, so this works well for me! The internal separators allow me to organize groups of sticks and mallets. And the the pockets on the front fold-over flap give me quick access to the things I'm actually expecting to use at a specific rehearsal or concert.
This is exactly what I have been looking for!
I only have one suggested improvement. Make the inside of the external pockets any color other than black (grey, blue, red, green). That would make it easier to find small items in those pockets.

I have been using various bags of various types over the years (including its little brother) and I wanted to wait on reviewing this until I had a few years of experience with it. I Think this bag is the closest to what I want so far on the market. I like the backpack straps and I enjoy the space. I am able to hold just about everything I would need on a day to day basis, be it jazz combo/big band, orchestras or various nonwestern musics I participate in. I can easily fit my music and laptop and even a water bottle for good measure. I usually fill this thing up to 25 pounds and it has taken quite a bit of abuse from day to day walking and such. Last night was the first point of failure where a strap adjuster broke after a multiple foot hop down from a van while fully loaded.
I can talk about this bag all day. I get comments all the time about how great the bag is or how this bag would get too heavy for some. I personally don't mind the weight as it stops me from having to deal with multiple bags or make other compromises in my daily logistics. This is the bag that made me stop looking for another option. I know it won't be the style for some, but this is right up my alley in so many ways.

Very well made bag with lots of outside and inside pockets for just about everything you would need. It holds all my mallets with room to spare. I can even fit my Ipad and tambourine in the bag. However, for some people this bag maybe a little to large. It's about the size of carry on luggage. But if you need a big bag, this is it!

I have owned this bag for almost 2 years now as my daily driver. I do not baby it. I have used it with and without the dividers. I generally have roughly 25 pounds of stuff in it at all times. This thing is all I need for 99% of everything I do. And yet, with constant use day in and day out while being overweighted, there are no rips and no signs of failure. Zippers, straps and everything else looks and acts as though I bought it yesterday.
If you are looking for your one stop shop to bringing a healthy amount of gear anywhere, this is the bag I can't recommend highly enough. I have tried and daily driven almost a dozen various mallet bags and this one takes the top for me every time.
P.S. a lot of people say the side pockets are useless. I use them to store my go to triangles (one on each side) but have also used it for things like triangle beaters, conga wrenches and other durable small things. Personally, the slim nature of them really helps me know which triangle is where, so I kind of stopped looking for other things to put in them after a while.

This bag is a beast, it has so many nook and cranny's all over. The inside is also cool with dividers for an easier time looking for mallets. The space is not limited you can take other the dividers for more space if needed, the computer bag slot makes it perfect, also the bag is heavily secure than most bag options, if there's worry there's padding
This bag is a really cool and comfortable option to get, it's is huge for a percussion bag so if you want something more casual get the smaller version of the Liberty King Bag.
Over all 5/5

Bag is well made, sturdy, and has plenty of space, pockets, etc. The cushioned straps were the biggest selling point as the smaller version only has one strap on the top. Zippers are sturdy and hold up to wear and tear. Plenty of compartments for smaller things and movable dividers with string Velcro for the main section to be configured however you need. Nice spot for business cards/name card at the top and sits up well for ease of use when performing. Worth the investment. I also waterproofed the bag as soon as it arrived, so it's protected against the weather. That said, the fabric is thickly woven, so if it came to a lite rain or being exposed to water without the waterproof, it would probably be fine. Highly recommend!

Another home run for Liberty One. This bag is as close to perfect as I have found for the pro gigging percussionist. Other reviews have mentioned the small flaws that still exist (thus the 4 rating) but overall this bag is a winner. It has replaced my other bags. I am a percussionist for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and this bag has become the (unofficial) mallet bag for the KSO percussion section. All of us are now using this bag, the smaller version - or both!

Would love to see a trolley sleeve added mid back and a wheel kit option - steel plate in the bottom with holes screwed for wheels with rubber gaskets. Son loves his, but schlepping thru the airport could be better.

I wanted a large, stand-up bag for concert and this one filled the bill! It holds a lot of mallets and they are easy to find quickly. It also has pocket space for music and other odds and ends. Back pack straps make for easy transport.

Nice big size to hold lots of sticks, mallets, and instruments. Love all the extra pockets. Backpack straps are nice. For increased transporting flexibility in the next version, "airport luggage style" wheels and a retractable handle for fully loaded bags.

Overall this is a nice mallet bag. The main thing that would make it better is if the zippered pocket was wide enough for a standard music folder. Seems like a real oversight to me.

This really is a tremendous product. It can carry everything I need even for the most complicated gigs. The only thing that would make it better in my opinion would be a retractable handle and wheels so I can pull the bag rather than carry it; the bag can hold so much that it gets heavy.

I wanted a bag that:
1.) stands up to put mallets in (don't have to unravel a bag, easy access)
2.) is sturdy and protective (not flimsy enough to break if accidentally crushed)
3.) has tons of space (this is huge. no two bags to lug around)
4.) holds music (the galaxy cylinder can not.)
5.) holds extra percussion items (the Freer bag has little extra space...can't fit tambourine well either)
After trying many different bags and discovering what I wanted, this is clearly the best bet. Time will tell the endurance of it, but it seems to be fantastic...especially for the price.
Lots of mallet space, some drawbacks

Pros; It stands up well on its own, it has a ton of room for mallets/strikers, the main compartment unzips & opens/folds down with 4 easy access pockets (like how a traditional stick bag opens around a floor tom), great for long term storage space (esp. for large mallets).
Cons; zippers are of cheaper quality than a bag this expensive merits, backpack straps on a bag this big & boxy make no sense at all... a collapsable handle & 2 high quality wheels should have been included, the deep pockets on each side are too narrow for much practical use.
If you need a giant bag to hold lots of mallets, this is the biggest. I am using it for general storage (rather than transport to gigs) of mostly large gong & bass drum mallets as well as a variety of other strikers/ mallets / sticks/ homemades / non-traditional implements. Boom.
Awesome!

SO
this thing is huge, right? So huge that no matter where you go someone always says "wow that's a big case, looks heavy"
You get used to it
This bag is heavy, this bag holds everything, this bag is essentially my child now and I love him.
I keep about 18 sets of mallets, 8+pairs of sticks, 6 pairs of timpani mallets, a set of triangle beaters, a set of pitch changing mallets for vibes, a shaker, two over ear headphones, a few aux cords, a metronome, back up phone charger, two drum keys, a few dog stickers, six methods books, a few marimba solos, loose sheet music, and some tape in this thing and boy howdy do I love every second of it.
It comfortably fits.
Admittedly, I could be over packing but I do use everything throughout the week
Solid investment, love this thing, would recommend to locals on the street, durable as hell
It looks cool too
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

I've been looking for ages, and this is the best thing I've found to date. I wanted a bag that would stand up and allow me to leave my mallets in the bag. This bag does that. I can get my mallets, tambourine, triangle, and a few other accessories in the main chamber (after removing most of the velcro dividers), shakers, claves, and train whistle in the front zipper pocket. However, the side pockets are not gusseted, so I can't really put anything in those. You can only put really flat items in there. The elastic separators that might have been ideal for triangle beaters are too high.Maybe you could get standard drumsticks in there. This bag would be golden and get a 5 if the side pockets were deeper. Definitely a step in the right direction.

The size of the bag is great. However a flaw exists in the dividers. The divider piece has a middle divide section that is too large for the bag itself and thus can't be adjusted and is bent as it was crammed inside. At this point the divider is useless and will end up being removed.

This is really overkill... BUT... this is the best for all the extra stuff that I need to carry; playing shoes, delicate sound effects, small stuff easily stolen. The really great thing is the top flap folds over and has several slots built in to hold the sticks for quick changes. Since the bag stands on its own, all this is in easy reach. Fabulous.

This new bag by Liberty One/Steve Weiss is phenomenal! I've been using the Freer vertical stage soft case for a while now, and it's great bag, but this bag can hold so much more! I've been carrying a stick/mallet bag and a timpani bag separately, but now I only need one bag. The side pockets are great for small bell mallets and triangle beaters. The bottom front pocket is perfect for holding tools, ear plugs, etc.. I highly recommend this bag so far. I will need to update this after a year to see how it last, but so far it's amazing!

Just got the bag yesterday- so we'll see how it holds up BUT, this bag is PERFECT for me! First, it stands up- really well. It was not shipped flat it is designed like carry on luggage. Second, it's a back pack- straps are adjustable and there is a chest strap for added comfort. Third, when opened I can really
SEE all of my mallets and sticks plus the top flap can house the mallets/sticks you are using for performance. Finally, four outside pockets for storage are well placed and very useful. The pocket designed for your laptop/pad has too much pressure on it because of all my mallets but, I can easily use for music.
Overall I am VERY PLEASED with this purchase- it is a BIG professional percussion bag designed PERFECTLY!
Shipping from Steve Weiss was as usual very quick and with tax this bag was about $100- I think it was well worth the money. I'll post later about any durability issues. Thanks Steve Weiss for always supplying excellent percussion products.
