So I'm a freshman in highschool right now and I played Yellow After The Rain by Mitchell Peters. I'm so glad I'm done with it. I like this price but hearing it get played over and over again gets annoying. I did Yellow After The Rain for solo and ensemble this year and got a gold at district and went to state and got a gold there as well ... so when I finished Yellow After The Rain. I moved on to Rhythm Song... and I kid you not. I'm having the most fun learning this. with Yellow After The Rain I got bored of playing and hearing it. With Rhythm Song I don't. And therefore I've learned how to play to page 9 in about a few weeks maybe a month. But I want to thank Paul Smedbeck for making a incredible piece. Thank You and I really enjoy all of you to learn this piece it's a good pedagogical tool... good luck and thanks

Very fun solo to prepare and play. It was a pretty revolutionary piece when it came out, and many people have tried to copy it. I feel real privileged to have the opportunity to play it as a high school junior. It's one of those pieces that a lot of people play, but it's easy to skim over some of the finer details, such as dynamics and bringing out different patterns. It's also a real marathon, and if you're not familiar with playing long solos, it'll take some conditioning. Your fingers will hurt, as it's around 12 minutes of basically non-stop eighth notes
If you like interesting harmonies and finding different emergent melodies within a complex pattern, it's a real riot. Smadbeck wrote another, similar piece called "Virginia Tate" which is slightly more melodic and a great follow-up pieace if you like his style (which I do :D).
GLHF!
Great!

Purchased this piece for my son's solo performance. He did very well, in part because he chose this piece. Because of a time limit, the piece had to be shortened. This arrangement allowed for a easy revision.
