No need to spend more for your mallets. The Vic Firth Virtuoso series mallets are well made, sound great and aren't expensive.

Love These Mallets!

Vic Firth Virtuoso Series Keyboard Mallets - Medium are wonderfully articulate, but still incredibly warm sounding. They are ideal for the mid to lower range of the marimba. But I wouldn't be afraid to use them on anything and everything. They are very versatile. If you were only going to get one set of mallets, these would be the ones to get!

I'm a freshman percussion major in college and these mallets are perfect for a starting pair. They're cheap and suit my needs very well. These are the general, all-purpose mallets. they do their job and they do it well. The sound quality is good. Although I cannot speak to the long-term durability as I've had them for about two months, they've remained sturdy so far. If you're looking for more specialized mallets then avoid these, but they're perfect for a starter or all-purpose pair.

These mallets, as the other reviewers mention, do their job. They're a decent set of mallets for learning 4-mallet marimba. But they do have their problems. Yarn isn't too durable, they're very light, they don't give you very much sound on the edges of the black bars unless you're really whaling on them. They solid produce sound throughout the marimba, so in that aspect they're very useful. Outside of that, I'd spend the extra money on Innovative Percussion or Malletech.

I've either purchased and/or played on all of the mallets in the Vic Firth Virtuoso series, and all I can say is that these mallets are alright. If you are a player who doesn't play a ton, or doesn't put much energy into playing, then these are great inexpensive mallets for you; but if you are truly dedicated, do not buy these. They are much too light (which I guess is a personal preference), the shaft seems ready to shatter at any moment, and the yarn is not durable at all. But I do have to say, that right out of the package, they sound great.

These mallets are a great alternative to the really expensive mallets. They sound good, have a good feel, and the best part...they are affordable!! The downside is the obvious fact that they won't last quite as long as some other more expensive mallets. I am using them for a Michael Burritt solo currently. They would also be good for some ensemble playing.
