Used for a recent performance of Respighi's "Pines of Rome". Turning is very smooth, yet it's still plenty loud.

Works & sounds like it should, but isn't of the same quality as the name brands. It's fine if used occasionally & by the same person, but I wouldn't recommend it for say a school program (where it'll get a bit beat on & be used by several different players). For my purposes, I use it when I need that sound in theater shows, & it works perfectly for me, so no need to spend more on a name brand.

I purchased a new ratchet for my pit set up because I was tired of borrowing them and wanted my own. This is a great instrument! The chrome finish is very elegant and the tone is excellent. The handle is easy to turn even when it is at a less than optimum angle and there is little time to get to it. I would have given this item a 5 rating if it only had a better mounting clamp. Though the one provided is adequate I would much rather have a standard 3/8 inch mounting bracket that would easily secure to any standard LP style system.

Solidly constructed. A nice clean ratchet sfx. Clamps on to your 'toy rack' or can be held, and the handle can turn either way so your sound effect is always on time.

Well made, sturdy, easy to operate. A little on the quiet side when used with a chamber orchestra. Nevertheless, recommended.

Believe it or not my band played a piece requiring two ratchets. We had one, needed a second. No local music stores had ratchets. Steve Weiss had one for a good price, and it was delivered rapidly. The concert was a success.
