China Splashes

Comments:

I purchased all 3 of these china splashes. The ones I received are all fairly heavy and stiff for their size, but do sound good if hit hard. Years ago Weiss had a small selection of similar-looking chinas from a brand called XingSir which not only included these small cymbals but also larger chinas up to 20". These had the same exact design except were much thinner and splashier. Some other reviews say these Weiss ones are responsive and thinner so perhaps if you specify you want a light one they may hand pick one for you like they do with gongs. Of the 3 I have, the 10" sounds the best, very quick and trashy. Not surprisingly it is also the lightest of the 3 for its size...go figure! The 12" has a lot of weird clangy overtones due to its weight. The 8" has a cool clangy Asian sound, sort of like the little cymbals used in pairs in Chinese music etc. If you want to try one out, I'd go for the 10" first.

These are excellent little cymbals! Because they have a "western" china shape (ie not Wuhan shaped) they are thinner and open up much more than Wuhan style chinas. These sound good on their own as a short splash with a china like sound, and they also make excellent stackers. Again, because of their shape, they fit on top of other cymbals easily and small splashes also fit on top of them for all kinds of possibilities. Very versatile cymbals, and for the price, you certainly can't go wrong.

china splash

Comments:

Great little china splash for lower volume use, exactly what I was looking for. Nice tones, not as trashy as wuhans, nor as loud.

Awesome!!!

Comments:

It's totally worth it for the great sound it has especially for the size. My only regret is that I was a little more gentle with it. No matter how hard you hit it, it will give a great vibrant trashy sound. I am totally buying another since I broke the first. It also makes a great splash stack with a Wuhan 8" splash. The sound is unique. Try it out!
