Description

Album of Old Photographs by Christine Donkin is a set of short pieces written mostly in a romantic style. The prelude begins in a contemporary (although tonal) harmonic language and gradually carries the listener "back in time" to a more romantic tonality. The five "photographs" hint at a possible story connecting the different images, but these connections are intentionally ambiguous. During the postlude, the harmony gradually shifts back to a contemporary style to finish the composition as it began.

Written in 5 movements -
Prelude & Portrait of a Little Girl
At the Fair
Pleasant Evening on the Beach
Young Man in Uniform
A Path Through the Trees & Postlude

Instrumentation -
Marimba (4.3 octave, 4 mallets)
Piano

Difficulty - Grade 4
