She is Asleep is constructed in two parts. Both parts may be played separately or together and in any order. Cage planned more parts to be added. The voice in the Duet should use unconventional methods of voice production. The sounds themselves are to be determined by the singer.The Quartet has complex rhythms and is prevailingly quiet, varying between piano and pianississimo.
