As with the other commenters on this item, I could not be more impressed. Especially for the price. This drum sounds like a drum beyond $700. You simply cannot find a drum with this sound for this price. It is a must-have for your snare drum collection. Very versatile. I use it for rock, jazz, choral music, cover bands. It reacts well with brushes, has a GREAT punch, and is plenty loud enough for amplified music. Do yourself a favor and add this to your collection. You may never use another once you've played it.

A truly amazing, one of a kind snare. Super sensitive, amazing crack and full round body all in one beautiful little drum. I have owned 25 snare drums in my life and this African mahogany beauty is the finest, most expressive instrument I have ever played. Get one while you can!

I cannot give this drum a high enough rating as it is the perfect snare drum - ever since I purchased this drum (about 5 years ago) it has been the only snare for me - I play in a variety of settings on a given weekend (rock, jazz, church...etc...) and this snare sounds amazing in all settings - the throw off is another great feature of this drum as it is very easy and fast to turn it off/on - the sound of this drum can range from a (surprisingly - as it's 13x5") deep sound to a tight crack - I have a yamaha maple custom (my former favorite snare) that is collecting dust while I enjoy this masterpiece - please do yourself a favor and pick up one of these drums - you will not be sorry!

This drum is the most awesome, under reported piece of percussion on the planet! The African Mahogany shell, by itself is worth the price of admission. Coupled with a great strainer, you have a drum that should be another couple hundred bucks or so. The drum will respond well to all tunings, and will crack nicely if cranked up, or soothe with a phat, low, Jazz Festival moan if so tuned. The 13" diameter will always give a nice, meaty sound, and makes a surprising amount of room at the throne. One day, Pearl is going to wise up, and set the street price for these at six hundred bucks. Until then, I suggest anyone in a band whose fingers don't touch steel strings get one of these puppies. There are many more mass-produced drums to be found, and of course a ton of the Keller Boutique beasts made by everyone with a router and sandpaper. Save yourself a pile; but this one. I don't even use any other drum, and few would really need more either.
