Black Swamp Overture Wood Blocks

I bought the large Overture woodblock on a whim, and compared it to the same size Black Swamp maple woodblock. The maple had slightly better projection and a warmer tone. The Overture was a bit less resonant, but had plenty of tone and cutting power. The Overture seems to be made of a harder and denser wood. It is resilient and showed no denting after a few days of heavy usage with wood tip drum sticks. The main difference was one specific sound, where you play the woodblock with the shank of a drum stick. For this tone, the Overture didn't sound as resonant as the maple. In conclusion, for full orchestra I liked the maple slightly better. For chamber music, I'd say they're nearly equivalent. Overall great bang for the buck, and a great offering from Black Swamp.
