Description
Drum of Life is a solo for hand drums and tape. It requires technique and control on multiple world instruments as well as vocalization. Because of this, amplification of the tar and voice may be required in order to balance with the CD. The text and inspiration of the piece is as follows:
The heart signifies life to the body.
The drum provides spirit to the soul.
Without my heart, I lose my life.
Without my drum, I lose my soul.
Let the rhythm of my life, be a part of the rhythm of my soul.
In my drum.
The opening section of the piece is not in strict metrical time (only within the time frame that is given). However, the drum and vocal sounds should occur at the same times, and be patterned after normal speech rhythm. The vocal section at letter D also need not be with strict rhythmic precision. The rhythms given in this section are simply to be used as guidelines.
