I use the MP Elementary Snare Drum method with all my beginning snare drum students. It is a great balance of reading and technique exercises. The word "Elementary" is a bit of a misnomer though. It gets serious right from the beginning. I have used several books over the years and this one has become my favorite! Steve Weiss has the best price!
Started teaching my family friend's son with this book and its a great tool as it leaves a lot of explaining up to you. Not a whole lot of text around the exercises which I like, its also really well paced!

After years of teaching, I finally stumbled upon this great book for beginning and even intermediate drummers/percussionists. This is now my go-to book for anyone starting the journey of drumming. It covers all the essentials, leaves nothing out (as far as the fundamentals go), and still leaves room for each teacher to use it as they see fit. Great for percussionists and drum set players alike.
