Encore TM2 "Two Mallet" General Rattan Marimba Mallets - Product Information

The TM2 general mallets are part of the newest series offered from Encore Mallets. With most marimba mallets today being designed for four mallet playing, Bill Patterson, percussionist with the San Antonio Symphony, and Dan Lidster (founder of Encore Mallets) have developed two models of mallets specifically designed for two mallet playing. They have a thin rattan handle with a small weighted yarn covered head. These work well for state level competitions as well as professional playing. The TM2 is also a great choice for the Creston Marimba Concerto.

Comments:

This is a mallet designed expressly for 2-mallet work. Shorter-than-usual shafts-harkening back to an earlier time in mallet playing-aided by the flexibility and responsiveness of rattan, make for fast and light work. The inner ball and and firm, yarn wrapping make for easy, brilliant articulation in the upper octaves of the marimba. My students and I are using pairs of the Encore TM2's when practicing George Hamilton Green xylophone rags on the marimba, making low hands and low mallet heights all the easier. The TM2's can be used for more general melodic playing given relaxed hands and greater attention paid to tone production. (GAR 13 January 2022)
