Evans E-rings are an easy-to-use external overtone control ring which "floats" on the surface of a drumhead. It rounds out and flattens the drumhead's sound and allows for easier tuning.
I had been Aquarian Studio Rings and felt like they were choking too much resonance from my toms so I ordered a set of Evans E-Rings. I am super pleased with the amount of overtones taken out while still allowing a natural head attack and resonance of the drum to come through. My toms sound great both live and on recordings. I will definitely continue to use these.

Zero rings
Comments:
I used zero rings many years ago along with a Gladstone pad. I lent them out and never got them back.
The E-rings are perfect. I'm teaching my grandson drums on my 1970's Slingerland kit. I plan on making more purchases in the future.

Effective
Comments:
Took my drums from bow-wowwowwow to simply woof. Got a 70s sound out of coated G2 tom heads on a 12-13-16 tama swingstar with the wider rings.

Just the thing.
Comments:
After eons of using old credit cards and handkerchiefs to swap snare styles mid-set from "serious spank" to "muted backbeat" I finally tried a ring. It does exactly what I want, and while it's less-entertaining than watching a decommissioned Visa bounce around, it also doesn't suddenly bounce *off* in the middle of a song.
Who can argue with $2.50?
