Evans E-rings are an easy-to-use external overtone control ring which "floats" on the surface of a drumhead. It rounds out and flattens the drumhead's sound and allows for easier tuning.
After eons of using old credit cards and handkerchiefs to swap snare styles mid-set from "serious spank" to "muted backbeat" I finally tried a ring. It does exactly what I want, and while it's less-entertaining than watching a decommissioned Visa bounce around, it also doesn't suddenly bounce *off* in the middle of a song.
Who can argue with $2.50?

I really like the amount of dampening these rings give to the sound of the drums, I mainly use them only to quiet them up a bit for neighbors sake. I also like the fact they are clear and blend in with the clear emperors I just put on my pearl masters maple kit. I was using moon gels and I did not like the marks they were leaving on the
coated heads or the stock pinstripes on the kit. I was also using Remo rings and didn't like the white look on the drums either (yes i'm that anal).
So anyway, Evans rings are a great product, and thanks to steve weiss music for having these sold separately.
So i could buy the sizes i needed, if you don't need all the dampening effect the rings give you can cut them in half to ease up on the dampening. I cut the one for my snare and it sounds awesome.

I'm not sure how you improve on something like this but Evans is always consistent and always worth the money.
