Evans 12

Comments:

Evans has always made the best tom heads, in my view, including the EC2s and G1 or G2s, etc. However, over the years I've gravitated back to the hydraulic heads. It's true they install easily, are super easy to tune and they hold tuning very well after the first couple days to settle. I really like the warm and moderately dark sound they get - I purchased the 12" and 14" ones this time. They are not "dead" and will sing (at least moderately so), depending on tuning pitch or muting - as I still use E or O rings to warm the tone, even with these heads. These heads are to tom batter heads what maple is to drum kits, meaning they produce a warm and slightly punchy timbre. I bought the red ones for the first time (been playing the glass ones) and the red color is beautiful...though I don't know if there is really any sound difference between the glass, red and blue (or if there is even supposed to be). I would recommend them for most genres, except for jazz where the G1 would produce a more characteristic tone, ring and articulation. Use hydraulics on my church kit and my personal kit. These are quality heads.

Tone for days!

Comments:

I got a set of 10, 13, for my toms, and a 16 for my floor tom. They tuned up easily, and stayed there. The oil between the plies minimizes harmonic overtones, while allowing the fundamental tone to sing. The drums are punchy and articulate, with a nice warm tone that sounds great mic'ed and/or acoustic. I just picked up an 18 for a small kick drum that I can't wait to try! The look is a total plus!

Red Evans heads

Comments:

Not only do they sound great they look outstanding. For those of us that suffered for all the years they were discontinued, but held on to what we had... Thanks for bringing them back and supplying those who were in need.
