Great collection and service was excellent.
George Hamilton Green’s Xylophone Rags contains eight original solos with piano accompaniment by the master of xylophone ragtime music. Includes information on style, performance practices, and a discography of Green’s music. Edited by Randy Eyles.
Meredith Music has come through with another winner. A must for any student/performer who wants a true insight into this popular style.
Considered one of history’s greatest xylophone players, George Hamilton Green started playing at age 11 and at 13 was performing solos with his father’s band. At 19 he entered vaudeville and in one year was proclaimed “the fastest, most artistic, and most wonderful xylophonist and soloist in this country or abroad.” He was one of the most popular artists in recorded history, acting as soloist, composer, arranger, and as part of various groups including All Star Trio, Green Brothers’ Xylophone Orchestra, and Green Brothers Novelty Band. Green was a fine teacher and author of pedagogical materials; his course of 50 lessons retains importance today. His solo xylophone compositions such as “The Ragtime Robin,” “Charleston Capers” and “Caprice Valsant” still retain an enormous popularity. Upon his retirement from music in 1946, Green pursued a successful career as an artist, illustrator and cartoonist.

Its actually great music and great technique. Usually percussionists have to choose between music that is actually musical and material that pushes technique. These solos are both, a unique and unbeatable combo. Push your keyboard skills today with these classic xylo rags.
If you've been looking at any kind of intermediate mallet rep, particularly four mallet pieces, you will see the music in this book and probably assume that it is easy. One line of mostly stepwise chromatic melody should be a piece of cake, right? However, the rhythmic character of ragtime is delightful and takes time to perfect, and, because the material was written by a xylophonist, it flows beautifully. This is some of the most fun I've had playing keys. Very accessible, but with so much depth.
Thanks.... Just what we needed.
Comes with piano accompaniment and seperate solo part. Also of note, many of these are already arranged for percussion ensemble.
