This is a reprint of the 1929 compilation of "George Hamilton Green's XYLOPHONE SOLOS of Famous Sam Fox Successes." Unlike the original compilation in book form, each of the ten arrangements for xylophone by GHG is conveniently printed on one side of a single 11-inch by 17-inch sheet. It's regrettable that the accompaniments to these delightful, easily accessible pieces are mostly long out of print. (Originally, the publisher had advertised accompaniments for both piano and orchestra.) I wouldn't describe any of these 100-year-old pieces as "ragtime" unless you're willing to stretch "Nola" and "Polly" into that category. The pieces are in 2/2, 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8. They were written by Felix Arndt, Walter Miles, Fred Albers, Dorothy Lee, and Jessie Deppen. The one 2/4 march, based on tunes by Stephen Foster, was written by J S Zamecnik. I think it would be worth the effort to gather together the accompaniments and republish them. These tunes deserve it.
