The Gretsch Catalina Maple Series starts with 7 ply 7.2mm Maple Shell. Take these shells and combined them with classic Gretsch Hardware and 30 degree bearing edges and the delivered sound is explosive, warm, and project with lots of tight low end. All Drum shells go through a multi-step lacquer process that produces a glassy smooth, hard and durable finish. This is the Rock configuration. Bigger shells for a bigger sound.
