The marimba solos in this book are great for study, recital, and performance. Each piece contains elements of both basic four mallet and very advanced four mallet marimba technique.
This first of two volumes of 12 new works each (16 works commissioned by the Zeltsman Marimba Festival, plus 8 winners of the ZMF 2008 composition contest) is part of the answer to the shortcomings of the intermediate-level marimba repertoire. The breadth of styles represented is both impressive and intentional; while they are meant to be attainable by and to grow the knowledge of students, their artful diversity is sure to inspire advanced students and professionals.

After trying to sight read these compositions and adjusting them to my 48va marimba, I felt that I need to move down a class. The product is well printed and clear. Good product.
