Description

Written by the legendary former principal percussionist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Intermediate Snare Drum Studies by Mitchell Peters is an absolute necessity for any private teaching studio or middle school band room. This highly respected method book is expertly designed to bridge the gap between basic beginner fundamentals and advanced collegiate repertoire.

The collection features forty three meticulously crafted reading exercises and etudes. Rather than just focusing on raw sticking speed, Peters emphasizes true musicality, requiring students to carefully navigate complex dynamic changes, articulate phrasing, and intricate accent patterns. The studies thoroughly cover essential rudimental concepts including flams, ruffs, and varied roll durations within a concert snare drum context.

Educators continually rely on this book to prepare their percussion students for solo festivals, regional band auditions, and weekly sight reading development. Printed with clear, easy to read notation, this timeless educational resource ensures advancing players develop both the technical control and the musical maturity required for professional level performance.

I use this with my high school & advanced junior high students for sight reading at the end of each private lesson. It incorporates lots of dynamics, a wide variety rhythms (especially enharmonic rhythms), that try to "throw you off". Great for teaching at the Intermediate level.
