I like the wind sounds this little instrument makes. I'm not sure how to get a jay call or magpie chatter

LP Wind Whistle

Comments:

These guys have changed several times over the years. The original one I had was made out of metal, and IMHO had a much better sound quality to it. It was also much more fragile and broke several times. This one is pretty indestructible. However, it really does take quite a bit of air to produce the sound and volume needed. (I picked one of these guys up for Mary Poppins to substitute for a "wind machine") The original metal ones I felt sounded better and allowed for a longer note (i.e. Didn't take as much air, and therefore you could hold the sound effect note longer). Or you could learn how to circular breathe...

The only good review so far from this list of hate

I have been searching for cheap, affordable wind effects for some time. I gave it a 3 but it's awesome. Rob Fried of Max Creek employed this sound for years and from old recordings, it was hard to decipher. I sure wish I knew it was Acme b/c I use a few of their whistles in all my outfits and gigs as he did. I had bought those hand carved non mass produced owls from Thailand that when blown the right way sound just like the wind. But it doesn't suffice and it's not easy to keep grabbing something that wide around. So I recently saw Brazilian avant garde percussionist, Cyro Baptista. I heard that wind sound and since I was so far back, I zoomed in with my camera to see something like this product. Found it here on my percussion site, bought it and started fussing with it. Sure, it really doesn't sound like birds, just wind and that's fine. It's plastic but just keep it safe. I wear it around my neck with my siren whistle, samba whistle and duck call. It sounds kind of like the wind if blown straight but instead, cup it in both hands and blow, releasing one hand back and forth. Mics help. Love it and have been using it ever since.
