Balentine-Liberty Bar-V/M/P

Liberty Bar by James Scott Balentine was comissioned by Sherry Rubins and Kari Klier. This percussion duet can also be played as a small percussion ensemble piece. Keyboard parts require four mallets. For each player, the four drums should be of varying sizes tuned roughly in fourths. The drums should be similar in timbre, except for at least one small piccolo snare drum.

Player 1: vibraphone, 4 drums, one or two suspended cymbals.

Player 2: 5 octave marimba, 4 drums, small tam-tam.

Suggested drum choices: high bongo, low bongo, 2 timbales, piccolo snare, 2 roto toms, medium small tom.
