Got this instrument for my work place. It's just..not great. Some bars have zero resonance. And I mean, zero. Almost dead. The bottom octave sounds great, but from middle C up, most of the notes on the rest of the instrument sound dead. I tried checking the posts that hold the string up, I tried different mallets, I tried playing on different parts of the bar. Nothing. I'm in a resonant concert hall, and the instrument (again, except for the bottom octave) sounds muffled somehow. And I've played padouk marimbas before, I know they're not the same as rosewood. But something's not right with this one. I've heard not great things about majestic, and now I see why.
