I ordered this as an alternate frame drum for native ceremony circles. All the drums I make with hides tend to loosen up when it rains or is humid. Then I need to heat them to tighten. So, I ordered this, removed the snare rake and it works well enough for inclement weather. The sound isn't the same as hand made drum hides, has a bit of a ring, but it works. The packaging references it as a hand slap drum but a beater can be used.
