Everything about this drum is wonderful, It will tune for whatever sound you are looking for !! A very nice addition to anyone's equipment list.
Description
This Pearl Philharmonic Concert Snare Drum features a 4-ply African Mahogany shell creating the warmest sounding Philharmonic model and is a material perfectly suited to the dark and dry tone needed for larger concert field drums. The special Maple reinforcement rings and fully rounded bearing edges of the PHX series combined with the customized synthetic and cable snare combinations are ideal when a truly vintage tone is required. The hardware configuration includes the SR505 Triad Strainer and Chrome Plated hardware completed with a Matte Walnut finish (Pearl color #210).
The SR505 Triad Silent Strainer has new captive adjustment touchpoints and mechanical improvements of the three independently adjustable snare assemblies, full wrap around guitar wire snare assemblies for ultimate sensitivity and tonal expression in the softest range of your playing. And New Quick Release Snare mounting system that maintains your individual snare adjustment settings on all three assemblies for fast and easy snare head replacement and maintenance.

This drum is by far one of the most incredible tonally capable drums I have ever worked with. It's sound has an unbelievable resemblance to a rope drum, but with no ropes to wrestle with in the end. The drum successfully emulates whatever tone you need. If you need low tone, tune it low, high tone, tune it high, it works in absolute perfection both ways and does not lose tension or change pitch. Although a bit pricey, there is no doubt it is worth every single solitary dollar you spend! It is the crown jewel of a multi application concert field drum. You will love this drum and the many different applications it will give you for your symphonic concert wind ensemble or symphony orchestra setting. Bravo Pearl Drum Company ! You have out done yourself with this phenomenal high quality, solid tuning vintage sounding drum.
