These are great if you want something that sits right between the coated and the clear as far as tone. They also have enough texture to be used with brushes. Therefore I bought the 12" to put on my Pearl Marc Quinones Q-Popper snare, which is meant to be used like a timbale when the snares are off. It works perfectly. I could imagine these are also great as tom batters and/or resos for those who want something that gives you some of the warmth of a coated head but some of the clarity of a clear head. I am surprised they are not more popular and easy to find in stores. Glad Steve Weiss is around. Quick shipping!

What a difference from my old drum head. This is an excellent sounding drum head. I'm not a professional, but this fits with my needs and my drum set. I have always liked the quality of Remo products. By reading the description was able to decide which head I thought would work. It works perfectly. Excellent drum head and great price.

I love coated heads, but I hate when the coating wears out. For that reason, I decided to give these heads a try on my toms. They have a sound that's somewhere between clear and coated. They have more attack than coated, and are slightly more open, but they are warmer than clear. I think I still prefer the sound of coated, but I don't feel compelled to switch these out right away. The texture is very fine - it's finer than the texture coating of Evans heads, which is noticeably finer than Remo's coating. I was considering putting them on my snares, but tonal concerns aside, I'm not convinced the fine texture is adequate for brushes. tl;dr Excellent "compromise" sound for toms, but I'm unsure for snares, especially if you play brushes.
