Kitazume-Shadows IIIa, IIIb-V/M/P - Product Information
Shadows IIIa by Michio Kitazume for multi-percussion solo was commissioned by Atsushi Sugawara. It received its world premiere by the commissioner November 1, 1976 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall (Tokyo).
Shadows IIIa - The work calls for 6 Temple blocks and Marimba, however the performer can use any two different sounding woody percussion instruments with six pitches.
Shadows IIIb was commissioned by Junko Arase and was premiered November 10, 1977 at Zojoji Hall (Tokyo). The work calls for 2 groups of instruments:
Group A - Marimba, 6 cowbells - The marimba notes should approximate the cowbell notes.
Group B - Marimba with Buzz (like a Mexican Mba, approximate in pitch to the temple blocks) can be substituted with Vibraphone without pedal, 6 temple blocks.
The performer can use any two different sounding pairs of percussion instruments with six pitches just like Shadows IIIa.
