After several years of two mallets my instructor introduced four mallets but he failed to be as understandable as he had been with instruction to this time. So I looked to the internet and came across Skidmore's video that clarified my instructor's directions. I ordered Skidmore's book and took it to my instructor who decided to use it as the method of instruction in four mallet playing. The combination of my instructor and Skidmore's book and videos gives me confidence I will learn to play with four mallets.

I love this book for its well thought out progression from basic to more advanced skills. I love the warm ups and the etudes which are right to the point of the pertinent skill being exercised. And the etudes are beautifully composed pieces of music as well! Particularly valuable are the online video lessons corresponding perfectly to the book lessons. David Skidmore speaks so coherently in the videos when making any point about technique. Nothing vague or wishy-washy. And the demonstrations clarify details of mallet craft that I used to think I was doing right, but now I see a much better way. So thank you David Skidmore. The amount of time and intelligent thinking that went into this method is greatly appreciated.

I bought this for me to work on my Musser grip and I saw the lessons on Vicfirth and bought the book . I have started helping new mallet players at a local HS school . Fun and laid out well . Definitely worth having.
