Snow/Bunting-Fusao Arabe (SP)-P/opt. electronics

Fusao Arabe is Portuguese for "Arab Fusion," this collaborative work came out of a mutual desire between Justin Bunting and Adam Snow, at the time fellow DMA students at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, to combine elements of Arabic and Brazilian percussion and rhythms. A common rhythmic thread can be found in these seemingly disparate traditions. For the premiere performance, Bunting performed on frame drums and doumbek that are commonly found throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Snow incorporated the pandeiro, surdo, and zabumba that are found in Northeastern Brazil's dance style known as Forró. A third element of electronics adds a 21st century component to this fusion of global percussion traditions.
