Description

Strive to be Happy by Ivan Trevino is a 4.3-octave marimba solo dedicated to Aaron Staebell, one of Trevino's best friends and favorite musical collaborators. Aaron introduced Trevino to "Desiderata", a prose poem written by American writer Max Erhmann in 1927. The poem is a simple and positive credo for living life, and one that both Aaron and Ivan cherish and take to heart. The poem ends with the simple phrase, Strive to be happy."

Duration: 4'00" - 4'30"

I love this piece so much! This was my first mallet solo I've learned and I don't regret it. I wish more people knew about this solo because it is for sure worth learning. An amazing and beautifully written solo.

Beautiful piece to play and enjoy! As a band director it is a piece I look forward to playing when the moment arises.

The music itself was formatted and printed fine, but it was stapled poorly and starting falling apart the second time I used it.

Gorgeous.

The progression of this piece is so powerful, and the piece as a whole is simply beautiful. Not EXTREMELY difficult, but still impressive to listeners (just look at Ivan's youtube video). Some of the sticking patterns may tricky to get down at first (but once you get it, you just apply the same pattern to the same chord). I highly recommend adding this to your rep, Ivan Trevino does great work. I also recommend you read "Desiderata" (the poem that this is based off of).
