We plan on using these for concert band to give the 6th, 7th, & 8th graders an up-graded stick for snare drum. The tip helps them produce a more musical buzz for their rolls.
Vic Firth SATK Ted Atkatz Symphonic Snare Drumsticks have a long taper for great control and clarity during soft playing. Made from persimmon, which is known for its density, durability and high impact resistance, these sticks produce a full bodied and slightly darker sound than other wood.

I had a couple of months to prepare the well-known Lt. Kije snare drum part (soft and fast), and conducted several comparison sessions of this relatively large heavy stick with many others (Firth SD2, Firth SD5, Firth Genis Leggerio, Firth Gauger TG16, Cooperman 10.) The Atkatz, even though it was the largest and heaviest in this trial, sounded the best by far for these soft, fast passages. And it should be no surprise it also excels in louder passages (1812, Young Person's Guide). So it's all I use now.
I'm in college, and I use these sticks for practicing and major ensemble rehearsals. They give you a strong attack, a pretty nice rebound off the head, and aren't too heavy (they weigh about as much as a 2A or 2B drumstick). Not usually a fan of acorn tips, but because of the great rebound from these sticks, buzz rolls sound fine on them. Overall, a great, dependable pair of sticks that feel great in your hands and that do everything the more expensive pairs do at a 1/3 of the cost.
Well matched, good quality sticks
I have used other peoples pair of these same sticks and I loved them, so I though I would buy a pair for myself considering they are also recommended at my college. The pair I ordered were not the same pitch or weight and it's been irritating to try and play and get the same sound from both sticks, I just ordered another pair because I need a good pair to use, I am a little upset that they were not the same pitch, but I trust the next pair I bought will be better.
