Description
Expansions for Marimba and Piano by Adam Vidiksis. This piece is a study of shifting space in three parts. It begins with a free, prelude-like section in which the marimba and piano gesture melodically, exploring ever-decreasing intervallic spaces. This leads to an agitated figure stated in the marimba at the opening of the second part of the work. This gesture is explored in a fugue section that follows. Subsequent entries of the fugue subject occur on expanding and contracting registral spaces, before finally returning to their original form. The concluding portion of the work undoes the processes of the initial sections, now using contracting harmonies, as the intervallic content of the melodic gestures expands until the final notes of the piece are heard.
