There are drum method books that are so central to our practice, that even being written nearly a century ago, they are still critically important. Names like Stick Control, Syncopation, Advanced Technique for the Modern Drummer, etc, are synonymous with superior technique. The Wilcoxon All American Drummer is definitely on that short list as well. The rudiments can be difficult to "study," because of the nature of what they are; 40 short rhythmic patterns. There are several good books on developing the rudiments, but the Wilcoxon is, in my opinion, the best at using them in musical situations. Any technique that cannot be utilized in a musical context is useless. The All-American Drummer, is all about taking those 40 rhythms and exploring how you might use them musically. If you don't own it, you should. Believe me you will be a better drummer for it.

I think my student was making an old joke about me when he referred to this as one of the "ancient drumming texts," but he was dead on. Put it right alongside Stick Control, Syncopation, Chapin...

This is a must-have for ANY drummer, at any level, who wants to improve his rudimental techniques. It will vastly increase what you bring to the game, no matter what genre of music you play! I wish someone had told me about this YEARS ago! It has very quickly become one of my top 5 go-to books!
Good book!

Lots of solos based on the original 26 Rudiments. It's a great book to open up and work on your snare reading skills! Great book for anyone looking to begin reading snare music!
