Williams-Hann Drumming-Tar or bendir - Product Information
Hann Drumming is a recital piece for frame drum (preferably tar or bendir) composed for Sarah Hann (sounds like "hand"). Sarah was a graduate assistant at Winthrop University and she premiered the piece on her graduate recital. Hann Drumming explores a technique of rolling between the fourth and third fingers of alternating left and right hands to create the same sustained effect used in stick drumming on a snare drum. The work employs a sixteenth note base throughout, with the exception of a brief foray into a series of septuplet figures. The rich interplay of pitched sounds (doum, tak, and slap) within a rhythmic flow borrowing from Middle Eastern and Western rudimental drumming, with a dash of Steve Gadd - inspired funk, results in a delightful four - minute display of drumming flare.
