Description
Maruba by John Wyre (1941-2006) was originally composed as a duet for marimba and tuba. It was conceived as a conversation between Wyre, a percussionist, and his late father, a tubist. A year after it was initially written, John decided to add a vibraphone part making it a trio. It is this version that is offered here. In this piece, the mallet instruments provide a somewhat jazzy rhythmic drive under a more legato tuba melody. Classic recital material for an unusual combination of instruments!
