These are great for chop building! I double tapped mine to add extra weight to build my endurance.
Built for the demands of elite marching percussion, the Vic Firth Ralph Hardimon "Hammer" drumstick delivers championship-level performance in a scaled-down Hardimon profile. Crafted from dense Sta-Pac material, these sticks offer superior weight, durability, and projection — making them one of the top choices for marching snare drummers, drum corps players, and rudimental drumming enthusiasts.
Ralph Hardimon is a DCI Hall of Fame inductee and one of the most respected names in marching percussion. As the longtime Director of Percussion for the Santa Clara Vanguard (1981–1990), Hardimon helped lead SCV to four High Percussion awards and three DCI World Championships. His decades of experience in drum & bugle corps, rudimental drumming, marching band, and percussion arranging are built into every dimension of this stick.
The SRH2 is engineered specifically for marching applications. Its Sta-Pac construction adds density and mass compared to traditional hickory or maple sticks, translating into enhanced sound production and a powerful rebound on Kevlar batter heads. The familiar Hardimon taper, tip shape, and balance make this an intuitive choice for players already comfortable with the Hardimon snare stick family — now in a versatile new material.
Sta-Pac is Vic Firth's proprietary laminated birch construction, engineered for players who demand more from their sticks. Rather than turning a stick from a single piece of wood, Sta-Pac stacks and laminates multiple birch plies together, resulting in a stick that is significantly denser, heavier, and more durable than traditional hickory or maple models. That added mass translates directly into a more intense playing experience, making Sta-Pac sticks a go-to choice for chop-building, strength training, and high-impact marching applications. If you want a stick that challenges you in the practice room and holds up on the competitive field, Sta-Pac delivers.

I've been putting in time to marching band music/exercises as a snare drummer, and these sticks are exactly what I needed with the stage I was at! With getting more comfortable in traditional grip (although these are great for any grip) I needed to give myself some more challenges while increasing my speeds and actually beginning to play things comfortably! If you're looking for a good workout for you hands in a natural marching stick, I recommend these sticks!
I was recommended these for building up strength and endurance when I first started working on marching percussion. Years later, they are still my favorite practice stick. They feel great and sound great and they are also heavy. Best chop out stick. Would not recommend these for ensemble use unless you are playing a Michael Jackson stand tune and need a super fat and heavy back beat.
These sticks can definitely build chops and really help develop speed.
These are probably the best practice sticks you can buy. The added weight feels great and makes you work harder which improves so much when switching back to lighter performance sticks. I highly recommend getting at least one pair of these.
