The thickness ranges from 11-18 mils. The hoops on Earthtone heads are designed to fit modern drum shells, Unlike vintage calfskin heads, Earthtone heads are specially tanned and treated to reduce fluctuation in tuning the tom drums. When tuning your drum kit, the heads should settle after 2 to 3 days. Earthtone drum heads bring vintage kits back to life. Brushes add a whole new element when played on the textured heads.

Full Sound

I was told by one of the staff that they are technically goat skin. That is actually a plus, because you still get that full, deep, and heavy bottom end, but get to hear a little more of the attack. Whether you are channeling your inner Gene Krupa, or just looking for something not from the 1980's, doesn't matter. What really matters is that these drum heads are relatively easy to use, compared to their predecessors. Yes, There is going to be a lot of daily maintenance, (due to humidity) but the effort is well worth the end result. And, they seem to last a long time. These heads aren't for everyone, and I wouldn't even suggest them to a novice musician.
