I am a big fan of these timpani mallets. The handles are light and yet thick enough to feel comfortable while playing. They create an articulate sound at all dynamic levels.
I love these mallets. A lot of people rave about Black Swamp's carbon fiber mallets, but these are just as good, if not better in my opinion. The balance is great, and the articulation/attack is clear and clean, without distorting the fundamental pitch. They are my go to mallets for strong, and/or articulate passages. I've used them so much I've started to wear through the red felt on the outside! Will be buying another pair soon!
They may be nice for begginers. But they are too heavy in the core, and it's becomes difficult to balance attack when changing from the other timpani mallets.
One of my colleagues purchased this series when they first were put on the market, and after my purchasing of the series we compared the mallets. It seems that Innovative has a added a little bit of weight to each of the mallets which we both had agreed was a good thing. These mallets feel great, and sound even better.
I have loved the entire bamboo series since they were introduced!! These particular BT7's have a comfortable lightweight feel that offers a very controlled stroke velocity at all dynamic levels to give you the staccato articulation without the abrasive timbre.
