The source wood and workmanship used to be better. I miss red hickory. Still an above average all-around stick.
Lalo Davila, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Middle Tennessee State University, has designed the IP-LD signature model concert snare drumstick to serve as an educational tool for the beginning snare drummer. The IP-LD is constructed of white hickory, and features a slightly smaller diameter to better accommodate the smaller hands of a beginning player. The barrel shaped bead creates a full sound quality at any dynamic level, while the slightly longer taper results in an increased rebound and excellent balance. The Lalo Davila signature model is an excellent general purpose concert snare drumstick and the perfect tool for the percussion educator teaching young snare drummers.

In my opinion this is the equivalent to the vic firth sd1, but for ip. If you like sd1's but you would like more weight, this is the stick for you. I have used these sticks for a few ensemble auditions at my college and have done very well with them. Buzzes sound crisp and rudimental stuff sounds articulate as well. Wish they were a smidge longer but the stick is comfortable regardless.
This is a great stick for young percussionists. Excellent weight and quality. I highly recommend this stick.
great balance feels good in the hands for beginning percussionist and beyond!
This is a good general/beginner stick. It is a bit more weighty for my tastes, but it is good for snare as well as other concert instruments like toms, etc.
