I bought these after seeing a colleague use them. For his application I found them a bit soft and lacking attack, but I thought they still sounded very good (triangle was playing at the same time). Personal preference only! The heads have a really nice balance of softness and hardness, making them versatile in large ensembles, small ensembles, and recording situations. There is some contact, but considerably less than most other glockenspiel mallets. The tone is decent, but perhaps just slightly less than my first preferences in orchestra. That idea of compromise between these two elements should justify their purchase. Harder Balter mallets pull a richer, brighter tone... but also have more attack. I wish all Innovative mallets were this good.
