Yamaha concert Tom

Comments:

Well I wanted to post a review on the Yamaha concert Tom. I purchased two of these 6x6 1/2 toms. Shipping takes a while since they don't normally stock these. It's drop shipped directly from Yamaha to you it may take up to 6 months or longer depending on the shipment. The reason I purchased them was because Yamaha doesn't make a Yamaha recording custom Tom in 6 inches. These are Japanese birch shells which are very hard to come by. I've been searching for 6 inch birch shells for a while seems like anymore everyone has maple. Yamaha does make a CT-9006 which is made of OAK double headed but to get one made of birch wood to match your recording custom you need to buy two CT-8006 concert toms. So I have a vintage Yamaha power recording custom set and wanted to buy a Yamaha ET-906RB which was in 1987 a 6x5 1/2 concert Tom hot red lacquer finish. There are rare and very hard to come by. Not to mention if you do find one it's usually damaged and won't a small fortune. I've been searching for that tom for about 20 years and have ran across a few but like I said before damaged or two over priced. My thought process is to take one tom use a router on the bottom to make the bearing edge then add the hardware lugs/screws to the bottom to make a double headed 6x6 1/2 Tom made of Japanese birch. So all in all I'm happy with it. Matching the color of the paint is a whole new story but if your looking for an authentic Yamaha birch tom to add to your set I highly recommend it. The quality is there for a birch shell makes a nice add on to any Yamaha set. If your thinking about it might as well place the order. Once you forgot you placed the order is about the time it will show up but then it's like a whole new surprise. Hope this helps anyone out there wanting to make an add on to there set of drums. Reason I ranked this a 4 is because Yamaha quality isn't what it once was when they was making them in Japan vs China. Anyone who has a vintage set of Yamaha can tell the difference in the lugs and compared to the newer recording customs. This is still very nice Tom it isn't finished on the inside of the shell just dark stain on the outer shell
