This was my first time ordering from Steve Weiss. They had exactly what I needed. My order came quickly and was packaged very nicely as to not get damaged in transit. Will order again.
Rick Latham's first drum book, Advanced Funk Studies, is a classic method book for the contemporary drummer. The book includes transcriptions by the author of excerpts from many celebrated recordings by legendary drummers such as Steve Gadd, David Garibaldi, Harvey Mason, Peter Erskine and more, as well as specially constructed solos by the author. The two CD set contains recordings of all the patterns; transcriptions and solos as performed by author, Rick Latham.
"The purpose of this book is to give the advanced drummer some insight into the techniques involved in playing today’s Funk and Fusion Music. The patterns in this text are to provide the player with a working knowledge of style and feel to develop his own ideas. The Information within is merely a means to an end... The first section of this book contains exercises which employ various techniques necessary to master the patterns that follow. These exercises will be divided into three types; those dealing with (1) the Hi Hat, (2) the Snare Drum, and (3) the Bass Drum."

A great book for expanding your repertoire of funk beats and for developing limb independence. Also, there are some good transcriptions of popular songs in the back of the book.
