Udow-Apparition (Chamber version) (SP)-solo 5T/V/C/P/PN

Apparition by Michael Udow is a timpani solo with a variety of accompaniments available. The four accompaniments are piano and 2 percussion, orchestra, wind ensemble, and 6 percussionists. This piece begins with a five note theme based on Shostakovich's Symphony No. 11. The work also pays homage to Johann Sebastian Bach's contrapuntal genius, quoting four successive intervals from The Art of the Fugue. These two thematic motives are intertwined throughout the work. This composition would work well on a percussion ensemble concert featuring a guest artist or on a student recital.
