Shinkansen by Gernot Blume is scored for Trombone, Piano, and Percussion. This unique trio was commissioned by Hiroshi and Shiori Tanaka in Tokyo, Japan. This piece was written with the composers intent of describing the feeling and memories of riding the Shinkansen trains between Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka Japan. There are many moments of contrast which describe the quiet world inside the train, and the unknown of the land passing by outside. Many of these moments are noted in abrupt tempo changes.
