An excellent text with limited writing.

I've used this book in my teaching for over 20 years. This is my starting text and I frequently find that I have to use it with students who have come to me from other teachers because they don't have a complete understanding of reading rhythm that this book demonstrates. This is a book for reading rhythms. I appreciate the fact that there is a lot of material to work with here and it is mostly unencumbered by printed stickings so I can use my own sticking systems versus the beginning drum books that have printed alternating stickings throughout. The roll studies at the back of the book are particularly useful. The text works from the basic whole/half/quarter/8th/16ths and triplet forms. There isn't any exploration of more advanced polyrhythmic material. There is a section introducing the rudiments, but they are not implemented in any of the rhythm material. I haven't found a better reading text for the way that I teach.
